!So today Glada let me sit in while she took a call. It was something I didn't expect to hear. We're putting in scholarship money for the student athletes for next year but there were a few students I had trouble with. I brought those names to Glada and she smiled and told me to sit down. While on the phone she asked the person on the other end, "We need to know whether or not they made the Olympic team." Then she went on to explain that if the student athlete did make the team for their country then we're going to have to alter their scholarship. If they are going to the Olympics then they'll start classes in Spring instead of Fall.
I was just shocked that some of these athletes are going to be in the Olympics. Though they may not place that's incredible! And the fact that their were a handful of athletes trying out for teams just amazes me. I complained about the difficulties of putting in information of foreign students before... because there's so much more clearance that they have to have. Not really understanding why a coach would look outside the country for an athlete. But if they're that good to be competing I would imagine any college coach to want them, no matter how far they are located.
I still don't understand why an elite athlete would leave their country to go to college.
