Today was my first day interning! 1-5
When I arrived my mentor was speaking with one of the track coaches about potential transfers after the upcoming meets. Apparently, if runner aren't satisfied with their performance or how which races their coaches put them in they look to transfer. Which is good news for coaches (unless it's their runners leaving) but that puts more pressure on Glada and others working with student eligibility because they have a shorter time frame to get new transfers squared away before deadlines.
I was put to work right away! Starting with checking the eligibility for incoming recruits. I had a list of athletes that were looking to start classes this summer. I was told I'd be given another list for athletes starting in Summer II. From speaking with Glada and another woman summers aren't any easier because school is out. They have to keep checking grades, making calls to get the proper documents, etc. They said the two states that cause them the most trouble is Florida and North Carolina.
From the office I was assigned to I could hear the woman next door almost yelling at whoever was on the other end. She kept saying, "We need those grades posted! And it takes you almost three weeks to post grades! I need them ASAP!" I will be working with her in the next coming weeks.
